A different perspective on public transit

March 17, 2015

Emma here, and this week I'm reporting on all goings-on at TEDActive, a special TED conference aimed at TEDx organizers like our TEDxCortland team!

I've been utilizing the public transit system here at least twice a day, and I can emphatically say it's a great system - the bus is typically 1-2 minutes behind schedule (in my opinion, a sweet spot that allows people running slightly late to catch the bus), the bus seats are full but there is generally enough room for more people to embark, and the passengers are largely 16-30 years of age (it's rather hip to take the bus).

And that last item is key - by serving young people, the transit system is conditioning an entire generation to be car-free by removing the stigma of bus riding.
