Celebrate National 2-1-1 Day with us as we reflect on all the people 2-1-1 has helped serve.
Susan was stuck. She needed help finding mental health services for her daughter but didn’t know where to turn. Then she saw an advertisement for 2-1-1 Cortland. It said, “Need help? Find help.” Well, Susan needed help so she decided to give it a try. She dialed 2-1-1, just like she would dial 9-1-1 in an emergency. She was immediately connected with a Community Services Specialist who actually listened to her problem. After collecting some basic information, the specialist connected Susan with a local program right here in Cortland County. Susan also learned that she could call 2-1-1 Cortland to find all sorts of health and human service information, from employment services to housing information to after-school programs for her daughter.
Susan followed up on her referral and was able to get her daughter the help she needed right away. Reflecting on her experience, Susan said, “I appreciated the attention, support, and helpful referral. The 2-1-1 Community Services Specialist really cared, listened to my concerns, and helped me weed through the bureaucracy of finding services.” Since then, Susan has shared 2-1-1 Cortland with her friends, co-workers, and other parents.
Today, February 11th, is National 2-1-1 Day. Like Susan, members of the Cortland community can take advantage of this free, 24/7 information and referral service. It is available by dial 2-1-1 or visiting 211cortland.org. You can also web-chat with a Community Services Specialist from the website. Help is just a phone call (or click) away.
