SVHC to Host guthrie’s mom unit

Seven Valleys Health Coalition is partnering with Guthrie to host the Maternity Oasis Mobile (MOM) Unit on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Seven Valleys Food Rescue Hub (174 Homer Ave, Cortland).  This is a great opportunity to access quality, affordable care in a convenient location for select services.  While walk-ins are welcome, you can also schedule an appointment by calling 866-488-4743.

SVHC Awarded two grants

Farmers Market Resiliency Grant

Seven Valleys Health Coalition is excited to receive a $46,100 grant through the New York State Farmers' Market Resiliency Program. This funding will allow the Homer Regional Farmers’ Market to invest in building out more structure and systems to support the burgeoning seasonal market, with the ultimate goal of operating year-round. This investment in the market will help farmers and producers' level-up their stalls while connecting directly with their customers, ultimately building a stronger, more-viable local food system here in Cortland County.

Small Wellness Sustainability Grant

With the school year beginning and more people spending time indoors due to cooler temperatures, the risk of respiratory illnesses such as flu, COVID, and RSV increases.  Seven Valleys Health Coalition was awarded a Small Wellness Sustainability Grant to provide education and materials to prevent the spread of illness.  We’ll be visiting early education centers, senior centers, and locations around the county to demonstrate proper hand-washing techniques, the use of personal protective equipment, and to distribute supplies.

GreenStar Food Co+Op established the Partners for Change program in 2022 to support local nonprofit organizations "through monetary donations, raising awareness of their mission and work, and promoting volunteerism of our members."  SVHC is a nominee to be one of the Partners for Change organizations in 2026.

From October 1 - 31, GreenStar members can vote for up to ten 2026 organizations. If you are a GreenStar member, make sure to vote and support SHVC!

Pop-up food giveaways

An unexpected food rescue of 3,000 pounds of limes along with generous produce donations from Main St. Farms and Matthew 25 farm prompted two pop-up food giveaways this past month.  Through our food rescue network, we were also able to share the abundance of limes with programs in Tompkins and Onondaga counties.

Seven Valleys Food Rescue reduces food waste and diverts food from landfills while providing neighbors with nutritious food.  We are grateful we were able to share these donations with the community!

new york food rescue network conference

The New York Food Rescue Network (NYFRN) is a coalition of food rescue programs from across New York State that forges community to learn, grow, and connect across all topics pertaining to food rescue, food waste, and food insecurity.  SVHC is proud to coordinate the NYFRN 2025 Conference, “Sharing Our Abundances.”  The free, one-day virtual conference on November 5 will bring together experts from across the state, presenting on issues ranging from being a resource to your community during climate emergencies to donating food scraps to your local pig farmer.
