Safety – The National Safety Council reports that riding the bus is 170 times safer than driving or riding in a car.
Less Stress – Read a book, listen to music, talk to a neighbor, or catch 40 more winks.
Healthier – The short walks to and from the bus can make a real difference in your health and our dependence on cars is a significant factor in weight gain.
Environmentally friendly – Buses produce 95% less carbon monoxide per passenger mile than driving alone in a single occupancy vehicle and there is a reduced need for parking spaces.
A monthly pass for unlimited travel on Cortland Transit’s fixed routes (excluding Cornell) is $30.00. A monthly pass for the Cornell route is $45.00.
Monthly passes can be purchased at these Cortland businesses:
Exact fare is required to board the bus, or use a monthly pass or token.
Boarding the BusAll buses are wheelchair accessible. Riders should wait for other passengers to exit before boarding. The front seats near the driver should be reserved for those persons with disabilities.
Carry-ons, strollers, walkers and carts are allowed on the bus, as long as they do not block the aisle, and they are secured so that if the bus driver must stop quickly, they will not fly forward.
No smoking is allowed on the bus or in a bus shelter. Please, no eating or drinking (except for water) on the bus.
All of the fixed routes leave from the County Office Building (60 Central Avenue, Cortland). Anywhere along the route you can alert the driver to stop by flagging (waving) to the driver. The driver will stop in the nearest safe place.
Request your stop by telling the driver, or pulling the cord, about a block in advance. Do not cross in front of the bus. Wait until the bus has departed before crossing the street.
Route Deviation
You can request a route deviation within ¾ mile of a regular fixed route. Additional charges will apply:
Regular fare is $.50 + Route Deviation $.50 = $1.00
Regular fare is $1.00 + Route Deviation $1.00 = $2.00
Route Deviation also applies to monthly pass users.
Dial-a-Ride is a curb-to-curb service that operates throughout the county. You must call the dispatch office (607-758-3383) three days in advance to book your trip.
Fares: Minimum fare is $3.00 (one-way); Maximum fare is $6.00 (one-way)
