Between 1990 and 2000, there was a 26.4% increase (from 447 to 565) in the Hispanic population and a 19.5% increase (from 317 to 399) in African Americans in the county. These changes reflect a national trend towards an increasingly racially and culturally diverse society. |

Graph D-1 compares 1990 to 2000. There was a decrease in 0-4, and 5-9 year olds in Cortland between 1990 and 2000. There were also fewer 20-34 year old groups; these groups generally constitute present and future members of our labor force. The decline in the 60-69 year olds relate to the baby bust during the depression years. There was a 27% in those 85+ years old. |
