Cortland was #1 in the state with the highest number of founded child abuse calls for 1993 and 1996. No data is available for the in-between years. In 1998, Cortland County was #2. In 1994-95, nearly 50% of Cortland's indicated cases had a subsequent report of abuse within 21 months. This was the second highest recidivism rate in the State. The conviction rate is about 85% in these cases.
