Children with Special Needs - Early Intervention Program
Infants and toddlers who have suspected or confirmed developmental delays or disabilities may be eligible for the Early Intervention Program (EIP). This program has two components: Child Find and Early Intervention services.
CHILD FIND
The developmental surveillance component of the Early Intervention Program. A nurse will monitor and track the developmental progress of infants designated as "at-risk" for medical or environmental reasons.
ELIGIBILITY
- Apgar less than or equal to 3 at 5 minutes
- Birth weight less than 1501 grams
- Premature birth less than 33 weeks
- A metabolic disorder
- 10 or more days in Newborn Intensive Care Unit
- Respiratory distress (apnea monitor)
- No well-child care by 6 months, delay in immunizations
- No prenatal care or maternal exposure to drugs/alcohol
- Chronic otitis media
- Muscle tone issues
- Lead level 20 mcg/dl or higher
- Suspected hearing/vision impairment (failed newborn hearing screen)
EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICE
The process of providing comprehensive evaluation and developmental services to eligible children and their families, to promote optimal development.
ELIGIBILITY
- Children under 3 years of age
- Qualifying medical diagnosis
- Demonstrate developmental delay on evaluation

- Group therapy
- Respite
- Service coordination
- Audiological services
- Family counseling
- Assistance in transition from EIP to preschool programs
