Catholic Charities
Mental Health Residential Services
For individuals with chronic psychiatric disability, Catholic Charities offers a continuum of services for transitional living in Cortland County. Our underlying goal in our program is to give people with special needs a chance to become as independent as possible - at their own pace - and to live comfortably in their environment.
Beginning with Lawrence House, a 10-bed, 24-hour living environment, we offer a progressive range of residential choices. For clients who are ready to move on, we provide six Supportive Apartments, with monitoring and occasional help with living skills. The final step is Supported Housing. In this program, clients choose where they want to live. They are given relocation assistance and rent stipends as well as guidance with furnishings, utilities, repairs and landlord/tenant issues to ensure that their living arrangements provide a sense of security and comfort.
To be eligible for admission to our residential programs, clients must meet the following minimum criteria:
- At least 18 years of age
- A primary diagnosis of psychiatric illness and an ability to live in a less supervised level of care
- A need for supervised medication administration
- Limited likelihood of serious harm to self or others
- The potential to improve daily living skills and the desire to be actively involved in a residential program
- A desire to move toward independent living
Fee for Participants:
Most service fees for clients enrolled in our residential programs are covered by a combination of Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability (SSD), private payment and public assistance.
