Description of Services

The Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC) is a not-for-profit health workforce development organization located in Cortland, New York with a regional service area covering 14 counties, including Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga, and Tompkins counties. The CNYAHEC mission is to improve access to quality health care by promoting improvements in the supply, training, development, and distribution of health professionals in this region.

Programs and services fall into four main areas of focus including, but not limited to:

1) Health careers exploration:

  • Selecting a career is one of the most important jobs a young person may ever have. CNYAHEC has developed a pipeline of programs for K-12 students, teachers, and guidance counselors to help students learn more about their future in health care.

2) Clinical Training Opportunities:

  • Recruiting and retaining health professionals is a priority for CNYAHEC. We offer services to help make the clinical training experience more successful and fulfilling for our health professions students.

3) Continuing Education Programs:

  • With a focus on improving access to quality health care, CNYAHEC works in cooperation with academic institutions, health care facilities, and community agencies to bring continuing education to health professionals.

4) Community Partnership Development:

  • CNYAHEC builds community partnerships in support of local health initiatives. Meeting the needs of communities within our service area is important to us – we will work with your agency to identify and address common issues. Collaborative community partnerships have led to many successful programs in our region.
