Description of Services

7VCASA is a community-based not-for-profit agency. Their mission is the prevention of alcohol and other drug (AOD) related problems. To do this, they utilize a number of different approaches to educate, inform and work within the communities of Cortland County to develop and support healthy norms, attitudes, behaviors and expectations around the use of legal substances.

The Council employs trained professionals whose ongoing education keeps them updated on the newest research on substance use, prevention and addiction. 7V C.A.S.A., Inc. is funded primarily by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). They generate supplemental funds through memberships, donations, grants, training and fund-raising efforts.

Programs include:

Lending Library

Extensive lending library of books, curricula, videotapes and other resources. The Child Sexual Abuse library offers books and reading material relating to the issues surrounding sexual abuse. The Tobacco library has a wide array of resources for those who want to quit smoking or chewing tobacco, or those interested in educating or learning more about it.

"Behavior, Drugs and the Law"

The "BD&L" program is an educational program originally designed for youth referred by local magistrates for underage possession. The curriculum is OASAS-approved and has been tailored to address other substance-related referrals as well.

"TIPS®" Server Training

Together with the Cortland County Sheriff's STOP-DWI representative, they offer TIPS® (Training for Intervention Procedures) programming to employees of licensed alcoholic beverage outlets.

Health Care Provider Education

Health-care settings are an ideal place to identify, very early on, substance use that is just beginning to show itself in people's overall health.

Community Education/Awareness

Mobilizing and supporting lasting change within communities requires an ongoing presence and consistent maintenance of efforts on many fronts. 7VCASA staff is actively involved in community groups, Boards, parent/school committees, human services programming, collaborative efforts for grants and other project development.
